Game Fish Season & Limits
Fish such as walleye, northern pike, bass, and muskie can only be caught during certain times of the year. Those time periods can vary depending on where you are fishing. The table below shows the daily and possession limits for each species.

Game Fish Season

The season for game fish varies. Refer to the DNR website (click on INLAND WATERS) for a complete list of specific dates per species, along with date for Bass Catch & Release only.

New Northern Pike Regulations  
As of May 11, 2019
 
MN Zones Pike Regulations 2018 New Pike Harvest Regulations by Zone

  • North-central: Limit of 10 northern pike, but not more than two pike longer than 26 inches; all from 22 to 26 inches must be released. 
 
  • Northeast: Two pike. Not more than 2 over 26". Anglers must release all from 30-40 inches, with only one over 40 inches allowed in possession.
 
  • South: Two fish; minimum size 24 inches.

Darkhouse spearing regulations for Pike have changed slightly. Refer to the spearing section of the regulations bulletin. Additionally, the new pike regulations do not affect border waters fishing regulations and special regulations that cover individual lakes, rivers, and streams.
